The head of the District’s Latino-affairs office shared photos of Mayor Muriel E. Bowser at a Latino parade that deleted images of protesters who showed up to slam the mayor’s immigration policies. Read more on The Washington Post.
“We cannot let ICE come into our community and kidnap our loved ones and neighbors with help from DC police,” the Action Network tweeted. “This goes directly against Mayor Muriel Bowser’s promises that the DC police do not cooperate with ICE, and that DC is a sanctuary city.” Read more on The Washington Post.
That this happened in Washington has angered immigration advocates, who say D.C. — which officials have declared a ‘sanctuary city’ — has fallen short on resisting ICE . But it also highlights a distinct gap in D.C.’s sanctuary’s status that is beyond the city’s control: Superior Court itself. Read more on WAMU 88.5.
Five D.C. activists rushed to Dulles International Airport on Wednesday night to try and stop the deportation of Seyni Diagne, who lived in Columbus, Ohio. He had a series of flights that took him from the Midwest to Mauritania. Denise Woods was the first to arrive at Dulles. She is a member of Sanctuary DMV, a local organization that fights to protect immigrants. She made several efforts to halt the plane. Read more on Washington City Paper.
